does any one know if they can be chipped, ie i mean actually replace the ecu chip, because a lot of tuning chip companies actuall fit a fuel cut defender with bleed valve for turbo boost control, and as we all know if you cheat the map sensor reading to the ecu by reducing sensor voltage this causes the engine to run dangerously lean and lead to detonation, so i was just wondering if all tuning companies are doing this when they claim they are chipping them.

yes thats the ones i was referring to, so people are getting ripped off then as fuel cut defenders can be bought for around 65 quid and boost bleed valve 40 quid, god what a mark up i heard of people paying over 500 quid for this , only takes one hour to do aswell

It's an internal ROM (or EPROM) chip...technically, it's an addition not a swap, the socket is already there (well, not on all of them though) and you just cut a jumper to select which map you want to run (the one in the new chip or the standard one).
The remaps, be it ROM/EPROM chip, piggy back, or a software upload increases the fueling and adapts ignition timing to prevent lean running and counteract detonation from the extra boost.
