Oil Usage on WRX PPP 03

Oil Usage on WRX PPP 03
Has anyone else had problems with an 03 that likes oil? I keep having to top it up and am using the correct oil. Shell 5w 40 fully synthetic. Dealer says nothing wrong but don't think it should using so much. Dipstick goes down below the minimum mark every 500 miles or so.
Any help/thoughts appreciated.
Cheers.

Yes, mines like a drink. It didn't use much when the Castrol RS10-60 was in, but it was driven mostly on motorway. I usually check every 100 miles and top up every 250 miles or so when using the accelerator . It's got Motul 300V 15/50 in at the moment and no change. I did notice some oil in the intercooler pipes, I'll get the dealer to take a look next time it's in. Do a search, others have reported the same.

I think this is quite common with high performance engines, a mate's got a 911 turdo oop's sorry turbo that use's a litre every 800 mile's, and most early R1's (bike) used about a litre every 1000 mile's.

|'ve just checked mine today, BUGGER it's down to the minimum mark only done 500 mile's since last check. I am led to believe, that they do get better with more mile's on them, let's hope so, mine's only done 4000 mile's, what about everyone else's, are the one's that use oil low mileage?

You may find that yours will use more when filled to the top mark, but will stay at the minimum mark for a long time.

Yep, mine drinks like a b*stard! In fact, it is being checked at the garage this Friday.
I have done 26k miles in my '03 STi and it will go from the maximum drill hole on the dip stick to minimum in 500miles, so I am looking at 24ltrs of oil per year on top of the 18mpg I am getting in fuel costs.
Easy though, just don't go out any more or buy food and you will have no problems running it! LOL
Bulldog have said, no, it should not be drinking that much oil!! So they checked it last Monday and are going to check it for me this Friday and see how many miles I have done. I will update you with their findings.....

Mine "drinks" the same before and after PPP and I am 100% sure it doesn't affect oil consumption, you just use the throttle more so it's obvious if you already have the problem, consumption increases a little!
I add from 300 to 600ml between changes (every 4500-5000km) and I am at 33000km currently.
IMHO if your car uses more than 1-1,5lt per 5000km after running in period you should check it.

Cheers all. My car has 29k miles on it and whilst its not drinking it, its using more than it should. Will ask dealer to check it at the 30k service.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Been to the dealer's today, to buy oil, and the mechanic told me "he seem's to think it say's in the handbook somewhere that they can use up to 1 pint per 600 mile's and not to worry unless it use's more than that"! I meant to ask him how much a 500 gallon drum would cost?

This stops engine valves etc wearing in. Dr John advises ordinary mineral oil or semi-synthetic for first 10,000 miles or so I think.
Only then switch to fully synthetic.
