Default thinking of changing oil (brand/grade)

currently running motulk 300v 15W50
concerned about the cold starts in the mornings (been down to 2.5Degs.C last week).
what brand/grade should I change to for a reasonably tuned road car?

I am also using the Motul 300V 15/50, and have wondered if this is such a good idea in the winter ?

I think that Motul do a 5/40, which might be more suitable.

I've got 8 ltrs of the 15/50 sat in my garage - I guess i could always keep it for the summer !

I would use 5w-40 and would recommend Silkolene PRO S or Motul 300V.

on a "classic" would personally use the 300V Chrono 10w40 as it mixes with no issues with the 15w50............................use whenever suits.............

When we are talking operating temps, the "w" numbers are irrelevant it's the other number that you need to look at sae 30, 40, 50 etc.

Pro S 5w-40 will handle temps of 130 degC for prolonged periods.

I assume this is what you mean?

The "w" number is related to cold start i.e. 0w = -35 degC, 5w = -30 degC etc.

Cheers
