Red face Help Boost pressure Bugeye WRX?

Had a boost gauge fitted yesterday and boost seems to peak at 5 psi and thats as far as it'll go. Seems a bit low?

When the car is idling or I'm off boost the gauge shows a negative reading then when I floor it the needle will peak at about 5 psi. The garage that fitted it plumbed it into the (what I beleive) is the vacuum pipe at the front of the engine. Is this the correct position?

Cheers

Ok, did a search and it seems it should be fitted to the vacuum pipe on the DV which means mine has been fitted in the wrong place?

In the fitting instructions for the Subaru supplied boost gauge, its plumbed into the small pipe coming out of the dumpvalve (think thats what it is) right at the front of the intercooler, 80mm down from the valve goes a T piece.
Hope that helps.

Yeah thats what I thought.

To top it off tonight the pipe to the back of the gauge snapped when I moved the gauge after it decided to unstick itself to the dash! F*ckin brilliant. 1 day old, surely theres suppsoed to be some flexibility in the tubing that supplys these things! To say i'm p!ssed off would be an understatement.

The next thing is, is my car drivable while there is air wooshing out of the end of this tube. Not to mention its rather annoying!

You'll find it'll want to stall and not pull off smoothly.

I had my Boost Gauge plumbed into the wrong place (boost controller line) and moved it myself over to the DV but, until I got some decent silicon pipe, T piece (Le Mans Motorsport) and clips.... the line off to the gauge was always coming off the T piece in the hose from the DV.

This caused my MY04 WRX to stall, rev erratically and not pull off smoothly.

Now the gauge is working 100% I get 1.0bar boost, but on a couple of occasions it's even got up to 1.1bar! (cold day and really giving it some beans)

I basically had the same problem.

Check the pictures here for where it's meant to be positioned.

And a really good closeup picture here

Yeah thanks for that guys, right the update...

Went back today and got the hose to the gauge replaced with a stronger item. Still using the same point and i'm getting about 9-10 psi on max boost. Not sure what that is in Bar? Does that sound about right?

No stalling or anything at the mo, but still think I might move it to the (correct) Dv postion though as i think the silicone hose will be long enough.

Cheers

Iain
