Default Speedo on import WRX

Can anyone tell me whether the speedo will be reset to zero when it is replaced or recalibrated from Kms to miles on import.
The car i am intersted in spent 1 year in Japan before being improted to uk....i want to know whether the indicated milage includes the kms travelled in Japan.

can't comment on anybosy else, however when we convert a customers car we supply a letterhead with complete details of the KMH reading at time of conversion, date, etc..................and no the speedo head does not get "zeroed", simply carries on in MPH from this date..............

So basically, if the reading in kms is 12,000, then the mileage will start reading from 12,000, so a car indicating 50,000 miles will in fact have done slightly less than that, in fact 45,500 miles in this instance?

Thansk for reply.

If the owner has the Japanese de-registration documents, I think the mileage is recorded on there (in kms).
I would imagine the mileage would have also been recorded in the SVA report when the car was first imported?

You're correct in your calculations. I think in most cases the speedo just has an mph sticker applied to it (or a new facia applied if not de-restricted).

I converted my own speedo, I left the original recorded K as is.
All I had to do was install a converter in-line with speedo cable from gearbox.
(MY97 )
Later models are electronic
Also just painted over the k in kmh, to leave mh...which passes sva.

My WRX MY94 has about 98,000 on the clock, i know its been in the uk for about 4 years, no idea if it had an SVA done but the dials are in mph made my lockwood. Any body know how i can find out where the mph/km unit from the gearbox would be? Plus anyone know if u can contact the DVLA to find out what mileage it would have been when it was SVAed? cheers

The car i am looking at has a digital speedo. From the documentation available, all post import, i am guessing that the speedo was zeroed as the 1st service was at 8000 miles 8 months after the date of import.

AFAIK trading standards take the same dim view of "zeroing" any car import or not!!!
