Default more noise with FETD05???

hey guys, fitted my FETD05 on my MY01 WRX, the car generally seems to be much louder... also, that turbo spooling whistle that i used to get in the low revs, has turned into a chattering noise, very audiable, through to 5k rpm... at which i backed off because I am quite scared about the noise.... could someone please advise me on anything that may be wrong??

check all exhaust and turbo gaskets for leakage. but then i might be imagining a totally different sound to what is really happening. if you have just fitted the turbo , then go back and check everything you did, loose clips, bolts etc etc.

TD05 is much less restriction in the exhaust path than a TD04, making it noticeably louder.

at first i have thought it to be possibly det... but det wouldnt happen so low down would it...?? not even full throttle and the noise occurs, does the td05 make a different spooling up noise?
cheers

hey midlife, its got the PPP map at the moment, going to TSL in 2 weeks to have it mapped, (i'm on holiday in a week before i have it mapped) thing is, even when the car is not on boost (or so i'd think) at 1.5k rpm it still makes this noise, but then disipates just like the old turbo spooling noise would do when i let go of the throttle.., so have you got any idea what type of thing this could be? cheers

Glad you got the noise sorted A couple of bugeye TD05 converts have noticed a noise like blowing over the top of a bottle between 1.5 and 2.5rpm with the STi 8 TMIC which seems to be "normal".

I wouldn't go over 3k RPM at the moment, The TD05 seems to have the potential to flow a lot of air after that with subsequent fuelling problems.

Just wait till the re-map

well the is the turbo meant to be much more audiable than the TD04 in terms of turbo whistle? because i think i'm getting a lot! also when the car is just pulling off there seems to be more 'clanging' however this may be due to the new manifold i have fitted...

Is'nt it TSL who are going to Map next week ?? I would ask their advice Richard has very good reputation

I remember stepping into my Bugeye (just changed TD04 for FETD05) with Bob Rawle and after a few kms leaving the kerb to join the traffic at the local roundabout sharpish........panic !!

The TD05 is a world apart from the TD04 and needs care without a re-map

TD04 to TD05 like going from impulse power to warp speed

yes it is richard at tsl, they recommend that i dont go above 310ish, however i will ask to be mapped to circa 340. i'm currently not driving the car, but when i do under 3-4k rpm. i have to admit took the kids out for a spin and booted it in 3rd and 4th to see, and well their expressions and reactions showed how much extra shove this has given, but no more fooling around until remap me thinks still worried about how clangy the engine has started to sound from when the td05 was fitted.... we'll see

AAArrgh! .... "booted it"

I had my TD05, TMIC, injectors, pump, reg etc fitted before the remap and it was awfull !!! Didn't dare run it on boost

I'm surprised it made it all the way from Carlisle to Bob !!! probably a testimony to the OEM ECU stuggling to maintain something near Stoicimetric fuelling in the circumstances
