Question Original dump valve venting to atmosphere

Hi All,

Not sure if anyone can offer advice.

I have a 98my UK turbo and i was told that you could vent the original dump valve to atmosphere with out a problem, simply disconnect the outlet and blank it off with a suitable blank which are available from Graham Goode.

Tryed this ealier today and it seemed to work fine when the car was cold , however as the car warms up it won't tick over. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this to work or should i simply buy an aftermarket dump valve?

Other question I guess is does an after valve make any difference to performance, seems to be a bit of a gray area, many friends have them fitted some say it make a difference, other say they don't. Are the insides of an off the shelf valve any different from the origianl i.e stonger spring / different diaphram etc or is it just that they vent to atmosphere i.e less resistance?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Gaz

It won't work, forget all about it. A dump valve does nothing for pure performance but can influence response.

No point in trying it with a Subaru dump valve as they can and do open at idle and recirculate.

A lot do the same, I tried with a Forge recirc one and it only stayed closed on idle when it was so shimmed up it virtually never opened.

I opted for an HKS Ssqv for my MY98. Had tried a few others first. Forge VTA, and then an APS recirc, but the HKS was great.

Not cheap though.
