Lightbulb Bonnet Scoop over Air Filter

Hi,

I have the chance to get one of these, apart from looking "cool" do they give you any more air flow to the intake or are they just a gimmick?
Cheers,
R.

Yep if you have an induction kit they dramatically reduce the air temp going into the engine. (when you are moving)

As per scoobyLav, Sefo help on the move , I had a temp sensor positioned by my filter & once moving it chilled straight away, Just stop after a run & hold the filter with one fitted & it is cold
heres mine from ETS Racing

Daz , i keep looking at this, I have a nice shiny sheet of Aluminium in the garage, but keep finding somthing else to do (easier), My plan is to just use the front chasis rail & bonnet (when closed) to act as the seal, In other words not boxed in completely until the bonnet is closed, Chop a hole in the sheet for the Maf, Bend & secure & edge with rubber trim to seal, Sounds simple, (so y have i not done it ?/) Will be a worthwhile mod, Just need to do it.

Dean, I'd forgotten that you've a cold feed scoop - I'm going to get one to feed my 57i, after last weekend - the underbonnet temps are ridiculous now... The filter is almost too hot to touch after a blast !

Have you found it OK even without an airbox around the filter (i.e. some kind of heatshield) ?

I'm going to lag the FMIC underbonnet pipes and AndyF cut away some of the bonnet seal, but there's precious little airflow... Once DR is back from his hols, I'll be getting a scoop (reverse underside type), but the heatshield build looks to be a right PITA...

Yeah, building a heat sheild is a PITA!!! I've got one but it's too poo to post pictures of!!
If you do a search for a thread by Fuz or Fuzz titled "here goes all my money" He has a picture with some dimensions on. I might get around to building one like that one day!!

Mark,
yes much better, even with no box around, the filter is always cool unless it has stood for a while & heat soaked, I also have my turbo lagged along with the heat shield, Downpipe semi lagged (top half) & intercooler pipe work lagged, Im also looking at manufacturing a forced cold air feed form the frontal area for even better cooling.

I made an air feed from the front bumper. It comes from underneath the offside indicator (handy opening) and comes up through the wing and out where the airbox used to be (right in front of the induction cone) I made it from flexible foil tubing two lengths so I guess you could call it a double forced cold air feed.
