Wink Changing the speedo setup from Kph to Mph...

Hi all, got a friend who has a STI ver3 who needs to convert his speedo reading to MPH. apart from replacing the small sticker to MPH in the centre of the odometer, what is needed to re-calibrate it to MPH??

He's a mechanic and is pretty handy so should be able to do it himself if it's pretty straight forward. Any advice or instructions much appriciated.

Thanks all.

(sorry mods...if needed to move...pls do so.)

Reduction gearbox in the speedo cable, derestricts the 112 mph limit and changes the mileometer from reading in kmh to mph. The fit the sticker over speedo. I've an STI V3, derestricted the speed limiter but never got around to fitting the speedo sticker.

Speak to TSL Motorsport in Notts mate. I'm sure its just a convertor you need to fit in between the cable and the gearbox.

Got mine from a place called South Eastern Transmission - they always advertise in the back of Banzai or Jap Perf magazine - £55 and a piece of **** to fit.

Surely if you can get to it, all you need to do is change the speed markings on the dial - where the needle points to at the moment is the same regardless of whether you want it in MPH or KPH.

Am I missing something? Perhaps you can't get the replacement dial backgrounds like you can for other cars I've seen (the ones that change from standard black to white background).

The problem with doing it this way is that the Odo still clocks up Km's and it's real tricky trying to explain that to most people when you come to sell the car.

The reduction converter is the best / right way and is fitted in seconds at the join in the upper and lower speedo cable just below the intercooler. £55.00 plus VAT is about right from a number of places for this, including us.
