Petrol Surge Tank

Mark, take a look at the www.mrtrally.com.au web site.
They do a very neat IN TANK anti surge high output pump/baffle instead of the add-on Power Station one Rob had.

I liked the look of this one from the MRT website but when I enquired the chap said it's not one of theirs !

I plan to have one made up ASAP
I'd looked at the in tank jobby but the price put me off, £370. I think a simple swirl pot will cost @ £70 and then an extra pump about the same.

Mark..
They are quite easy to make.. if its a surge tank then its an empty tank maybe with a simple plate down the middle as a baffle, or across the bottom with a few holes in it..
Swirl pots need to swirl the fuel in from the top - middle.. aiming it around the side of the tank.. with the return to the main tank at the very top this takes the air with it.. the pumps then feed from the bottom of the tank.. the rail return can then either go to the main tank or back into the swirl pot, however this can effect petrol temp etc, depending on the design of the tank.

Ok I'm going to have one made (Surge Tank), I just need to sketch it out
Will a simple box 10cmx10cmx10cm (ie 1 litre) with an outlet at the bottom and 3 at the top for various returns, ie rail return, tank inlet & tank outlet, work.
Is 1 litre enough to cover 30 secs of starvation from the tank ?
David did you use external pumps and did they get hot ? and which make model etc

[QUOTE=P20SPD]30 seconds of starvation? Jesus, what you doing to get that?
At Lyyden a couple of weeks back and at 1/2 tank was starting to get starvation on the start/finish start, uphill section of Pilgrims and uphill section of North Bend. Last timed session gave up and treated it as a practice lap. This was all compounded by the fact I coud not find a shell station close by to fill up before the event. In future I could either run with full tank an extra 20 kgs or fit a surge tank.
Worse case scenario, 550cfm injectors x4 running at 95% every 15 secs could use 522cc of fuel ??!! Mind you my calculation could be wrong because that would mean only enough fuel for 20 mins running at WOT.
Anyway a litre it is..
Any advice or guidance welcome.
