Question Help. New engine in but will not hold idle?

Just put a replacement engine in a 95 wrx, car fires and holds idle for about 15secs then dies.

If throttle is touched it dies to, we suspect the MAF but it was running with the old engine the day before swap.
However it may have had a knock when working on car.

We did get an error code 23, which is MAF, but did ecu reset and it has not come back but still have same problem.

Anybody any ideas?

Try unplugging the MAF to see what difference it makes.

CHECK MANIFOLD FOR ANY LEAKS, GASKETS, VAC PIPES, THROTTLE BODY. THE FAULT COULD STILL BE WITH THE MAF BUT IF IT ONLY RUNS FOR 15 SECS THE ECU DOESNT GET TIME TO LOG THE FAULT AS IT HAS TO OCCUR FOR A CERTAIN PERIOD BEFORE DOING SO.

Cheers guys, tested MAF no probs.
The ecu was at fault with a broken contact, spot of solder and she was fine.
