Sounds like fuel cut to me.

With a little more information somebody may be able to help diagnose the problem.

What mods have you got on the car? e.g. Exhaust? Air filter/Induction kit?
Has it always done it?
What gears/rpm does it do it in?

And any more information you may think relevant.

Check for split pipes around the Turbo, this can be a common cause.

it has a peformance exhaust on it but not decat - which is holed and blowing, saving up for new dont know if this would affect it and has a k&n filter and that is all i know about. it does not do it all the time but when it does it will do it in every gear at around 5000 rpm i think - not usually looking at tacko

My Sti v3 did this lot 2 years ago, at exactly 4500-BANG- feather off the throttle and it would pull to 8200 no probs. Would do thid time after time, nasty.
I ended up doing it the expensive way, but never has the problem returned.
I had fitted a Blitz boost controller at Power Engineering in North London. Total bill was £800.........
On fuel cut it hit 1.6 bar!
I now run a steady 1.31 bar, 314 bhp and its great!
