Default What Air Filter?? (MY00 Turbo +PPP)

Hi
Ive got a MY00 Turbo 2000 with the 240brake PPP fitted. What air filter can I upgrade it to without it having a drastic effect on anything mechanical? Am I likely to see the 'CHECK ENGINE' light on and running/idling problems? And will I notice any difference in performance?
...Cheerz!

The K&n 57i is regarded as the only safe induction kit to fit, but i'm sure it can't be as safe as the stock item. Fitting other filters have caused many fooked maf sensors in the past on the MY99s and 00s. I have an MY99 running a K&n but have replaced the maf due to issues I don't know if the filter caused this but there you have it.
Performance increase was not really noticed, but it sucks like a red light girl

Cheerz. Think I'll leave it as a standard item.

I have a MY00 PPP and I am running with the STI (Paper) Uprated Panel Filter which you can purchase via Scoobyworld I believe. No Oil contamination etc and I have noticed a difference with the way the car picks up and top end. There have been some recent threads about this filter and it seems a lot of owners use them.

Well recommended

Are you asking about replacement panel filters or induction kits?

Some people have used the K&N induction without any problems. Otherwise a decent panel filter like the STi one mentioned above is a popular choice.

I have an official STi Panel filter (not the paper one but the cotton based one) which at 50 quid are a little expensive but they are rather good
Scoobymania have them in stock (www.scoobymania.co.uk) and this is all ill be fitting to my Spec C from now on (yup i got it in there)

I was kept being told that I should take off my Blitz sus induction filter, and put the standard airbox back on with a green cotton panel filter, apparently, unless you're using an aftermarket ECU that does away with the subaru MAF, you'll always run the risk of MAF failure, which can lead to "catastrophic engine damage", again, this is not my words, this is what i was told by a "subaru specailist"

If you use the official STI panel filter (cotton one at 50 quid from scoobymania) it should be ok, this is an official approved STi part for the impreza and is maf friendly

That'll be no issues or problems yet Dave.

The ITG's aren't recommended, especially for the MY99 and onward cars, due to their habit of shedding filtration "mucus". Said mucus can coat the MAF sensor, increasing the chance of misreads and consequent engine damage. At end of day while the original poster could buy an ITG and have no problems at all, why take the risk?
