Default Can a dealer diagnose a faulty MAF ?

Hi,

Simple question. If I ask the dealer to check out the MAF sensor, can they diagnose this easy ?

Is it a simple voltage check or plugging into their diagnostic equipment.

I ask, as mines in tomorrow at the dealers, and I'd like them to check it over.

ask to go on the select monitor, ask them to look at both MAF and Lambda/o2 settings.
should take just 10 minutes to do but unless you ask for it, it wont be done as a matter of course.

SORRY, just re-read your post and assume you are going to sparsh1tts™ of botley, forget the above, I asked for select monitor to be done to my 99uk at the same time as a minor service, they said no-dice, have to come at a more convenient time.
phoned Proven™ in haslemere and was tested same day.
sparsh1tts™ said something along the lines of "well we are the only dealer in the area!!!!", I said Id rather see a red hot poker in my 4rse than let them touch my car again.

ooh, they make me mad

Thanks Peanuts,

I will ask them to hook up the select monitor. Need to get my knocking suspension sorted first

Dealers are very bad at spotting MAF faulures, it can be done, but much easier on a Delta Dash. Just get them to change it, reset the ECU, and see what happens.

Noticed its a MY02, any dodgy symptoms?

It's very difficult to spot a dodgy MAF on an MY01 onwards unless you know what you're looking for and it can really only be done on the road. I've seen a few and they don't tend to display errors at idle unlike the MY99-00 sensors, unless you're experiencing a failure mode I haven't come across yet. Sensors for the MY01 are quite expensive so I would only suggest replacing it if it's a warranty replacement or definitely proven to be faulty.

Cheers,

Pat.

So what symptoms are us MY01> owners looking for "on the road"-or does the select monitor need to be connected.

I've got Delta Dash, but don'y know what to log, & if I did, I wouldn't know what should be correct or incorrect figures for the MAF.

The main reason I asked is that the car always seems like it is holding back on me when I floor it. If I watch the SECS display and monitor the KC I never get a really high figure (have read other threads saying that 13 is the highest number).

So, I figured that whilst the car was in the dealers this morning I would ask them to check over the MAF if that was possible.

Main mission today is to get the bloody knocking suspension sorted
