Question Knocklink calibration ????

Got my knocklink through the group-buy yesterday, fitted it today using the link on the group-buy thread.

After fitting it i noticed on the instructions it needs calibrating.

It says something about turning the screw on top fully clockwise, tap the engine with a hammer - check lights. drive car at 75% and adjust so only the green lights come on.

did and how have you done this calibration, is it as per the above ?

reason i ask..

After fitting the knocklink i drove the car (Sti5) home from my parents house (8 miles) and now and again (above 6K rpm) the orange led's flickered causing me concern . is this cos i havn't calibrated it yet or do i have a problem. only the btm green one was on any other time.

If it helps, car std air filter, has all cats still, running on Optimax + OB and has uprated fuel pump.

On the scoob you should leave it at max sensitivity.

one or maybe two greens can be classed as engine noise or possible start of det.. but if it is showing orange then you need to check into it.

Try revving at less than full throttle say half throttle but enough to get to redline in second and if the lights are the same then it is most likely engine noise and nothing to worry about.. if it only appears on full throttle then you have det more than likely and you need to check into why.

STi5 can be ecotec'd so my advice would be to get it remapped for UK fuel which can actually give more power too.. Although worth doing any other intended mods at the same time or before the remap as the remap will tune the car for it's current set up.
Contact either Bob Rawle www.brdevelopments.co.uk or Pat@22b.com for mapping.

Friends Sti5 with decat and panel filter and was remapped by Bob and produced 320bhp on a dyno since.

In the mean time change up a bit early if you establish it as det.

cheers JGM

i dont normally drive it to the redline anyway, usually change at 4-5k. i'll have a look at the adjuster thingy today and see where its at. Like i said, it only went orange/amber right at the end of the rev range. The big clear LED at the top didn't come on so can i assume it aint critical ?

I'm planning on getting a TEK remap done in the not too distant future anyway, like you say i just want to get what mods i do want done first.

Well obviously red light is worse than orange but yout should still look into solving it etc.. but if in normal driving it is not showing more than one or two greens then I wouldn't personnally worry too much.

Question Knocklink callibration

Just finished fitting the above from the groupbuy and notice that the instructions say that all leds should be extinguished with the ignition on but my bottom green led lights when you turn the ignition on and obviously stays on all the time.Is this correct?Haven't managed to get any other lights lit yet but will try when it's darker as it was hard to see whether the leds were lit in the sun and watch the road at the same time.

PeteS

PS Do you do the spanner test with engine running or just ignition on?

Thumbs up

fitted mine today and did the spanner test with the ignition on but engine off & got both orange lights to light up.

so I went for a drive and red lined it in the first 3 gears with the sensitivity at max ,and only just got the second green to flicker

Looks like I'm in good shape

Phil

Chris_D, if you have an STi 5 it is well worth looking into changing the MAF, if the vehicle has the originally fitted MAF then it is likely to be on it's way out and will be underreading.

PeterStone, the single green light is normal. You'll notice that this flashes a brighter green to indicate it picking up noise.

BAUDELET JY, if you remove the intercooler you'll find a nice spot for it directly underneath
