Knocklink lit up today after filling up with BP Ultimate 98.According to Link controller 3 knocks identified.
Link mapped to suit 98 fuel so questioned BP technical support.Apparently when first in production ultimate 98 was actually 99.5 Ron.
Now they have gone into full time production it generally is only achieving the 98 Ron as sold.Reduction in boost required!

Lucky you had the Knocklink installed and saw this, so you can take appropriate measures. This is one of the reasons it is needed.

Mapping that specifically is pretty bad IMHO. Consider the variance in RON from tank to tank. I've certainly had 'bad' fill ups in the past, JECS retards the ignition/boost and audible det.
97 is the best mapping point IMHO. That way in a pinch you can get by on regular unleaded and Millers.
TC, I think he's saying it was mapped when it was actually 99.5, but since BP has lowered it to 98..

Ooops! Sorry RJ, didn't notice you're not a Limey. Muppetdom for me too, for assuming it was a UK source - d'oh!

Jza, BP do not sell 98 in this country, its only our continental friends, and Antipodean ones, er in fact most of the world that get it.
I've got a confirmation email from BP saying this if anyone is in any doubt. Some pumps may still be labelled as 98, although they should have been changed.

As a post script to this message , I was running green on my LambdaLink 8%co.So plenty of fuel , albeit not of the rating assumed.Would recommend without reservation these monitoring devices if mods made.
