They should be under the steering column, they may well be wrapped up though, there are only two wires going to each plug, so not huge ones!!
You also need to find the two green plugs!
green-green, black-black, ignition on, throttle to floor (eng off) for 30 secs, half throttle for a while, then release and start engine, drive genly until check light flashes, read the code and disconnect, the code is read like morse code, long flash =10, short flash =1.

Terry: If all you're trying to do is see if there are any stored errors, all you have to do is connect the black plugs together and turn the ignition on. The check engine light will either blink on and off at a constant pulsewidth (if everything's okay), or flash out the numerical sequence if there are stored errors.
If you want to put the car into test mode (as you would when cleaning the boost solenoid for example), just connect the green plugs and turn the ignition on.
If you want to do a full-on ECU reset, the procedure is as stated by Ron.
It shouldn't be necessary to remove any of the dash mouldings to get at the plugs. They'll either be hanging off the thick loom next to the steering column, or possibly be taped onto either the column itself.
Just to correct something mentioned earlier, the green pair of plugs has two wires in each, but the black pair only has a single wire going to each plug.

As usual GM, I guess you're right, I wasn't aware that you could do the test mode or just check the errors, I thought that a reset was all we could do, I guess you learn something everyday!

Sorry to jump in here - but the procedure for reseting ECU - throttle to floor for 30 seconds !! - Is this correct - I thought it was throttle to WOT for 2 secs bring it back to half throttle hold for 2 secs - release and then start engine ?? If I am wrong then I have been doing all my resets incorrectly

To be honest the timing isn't mega important. Missed the 30 seconds bit in Ron's post, certainly not necessary to hold it for half a minute. As long as you give it a bit of WOT and a bit of idle before you start the engine that's the important thing. All it really needs to know are the min and max TPS values.
