If I change the slanted intercooler on my pre-facelift for a straight sti/uprated one, will it still get enough air from the scoop, which is obviously designed with the slanted intercooler in mind.

I don't want to facelift the front end as i've already changed it to what I want. So will it work without changing the bonnet.

Probably best to replace the under bonnet parts of the scoop for one off a similar year car as the intercooler came from - so it aims the air onto the IC.

Try a breakers for one,

Cheers Vulnax999.

I didn't know they could be changed, would it be a straight swop.

My 95sti has a facelift bonnet, I tried to fit the scoop under tray from the earlier type to the later bonnet but it would not fit, some of the small mount holes were offset so they wouldnt line up.
I now have fitted the straight type intercooler.
Before i changed the intercooler (slanted) it seem to be only slightly off. i could still see most of the ic core (grill/fins). If youve got the bits give it a try.

Maybe it needs the scoop too?

What does the under scoop tray screw to - that bit may be needed too ( unless it's the bonnet! )

I think that the straight, bigger intercooler & under side pipework needs some small mods to fit in on older cars - bulkhead access etc. - but it has been done a few times on here.

Good luck!

i did this mod a while ago, the undertray from later car does fit on with a little work.

it also lines up perfectly with the pre facelift bonnet scoop.

i put a thread up in the projects forum, will see if i can find it for you

jonny gav, thats exactly what I needed m8. Any chance of some more pics of the clearance on the bulk head and the underside of the scoop.

Nice one m8 and thanks for the link.

Who modded the IC Johnny ?

I hear the 2000 Uk car has a black version of the larger STi or WRX ICs, so should be easier to get hold of to mod?

Is this right do you think?

i modded it myself, i have fitted a my99 black type IC to a friends my94 wrx and and found it worked ok but if you do this make sure you use the samco under piping as the standard black plastic one is very restrictive.
