Had a decat done a month or so ago and the other day I got a CEL. So today I fitted the CEL fix, how long does it take for the CEL to go out now I have the fix fitted ?? (assuming I fitted it correctly)

The car is a MY01 Bugeye

Is it possible that I will have to have the ecu reset for the light to go out ,or will it go out in time. I dont want to leave it too long in case there really is a fault.

BTW this model cant be reset or diagnosed by plugging a couple of connectors under the dash together , as I have found out in the past.

I intend to get it plugged into a deltadash or similar over the next day or two anyway, but just wondered if any of you guys knew

Cheers

Phil

Phil - you will need to reset the ECU to clear the CEL code. I did on my MY01. I did have a small problem with mine just after fitting. The CEL came on again (after fitting the fix). Scoobysport cleared the code from the ECU and it has never come on since.

Disconnect your battery for half hour and press your brake pedal for a short time to reset the ECU...

Never heard of that one before, but I suppose its worth a try.

Where did you hear about this ? And if it does work, do I press the brake while the battery is still disconnected ?

seems a strange thing to do

that method is on the technical site not sure who set it up but seems to work for my MY95 turbo. keep battery disconnected for 30 mins then reconnect and turn onto ignition and press brake for approx 10 secs and then start car.

It's better to press the brake pedal while battery is disconnected to discharge any capacitor inside the ECU but this is from personal experience not sure if applies to any case - you don't loose anything to try it!

It does NOT work on Bugeye cars you will need it reset with Delta dash or go to your dealers for them to reset it.

AFAIK if you turn on and off the key five times (without firing the engine) you dissapear all the CEL codes but historic trouble codes remain in the ECU so try this.

i have heard very similar things to zippy - Subaru made it harder from the bug-eye on to read things - more money for them...

That's not the reason why they did it. In order to sell the turbocharged Imprezas in the USA (which has tighter emissions regulations than here), the car had to be made OBDII compliant.

It's a requirement OBDII that the ECU holds DTC data in a non-volatile memory so it's still available for examination at service intervals even if your battery's gone flat (or whatever).

However, it certainly is a welcome (for the dealer/Subaru) side-effect that the ECU has such a good memory and can only be interrogated/reset with specialised tools. Makes it a bit easier for them to spot unauthorised (warranty voiding) modifications.
