When I put my foot down in 1st somtimes 2nd gear the boost just seens o stop as though it's hitting some sort of limiter !! This has happened ever since I got a decat exhaust system. It's a MY95 WRX..

Anyone have a clue what it is & any possible cure

I remember someone saying that in 1st the boost is limited anyway.

The other problem could be overboost spiking. Common cure is to have a restrictor fitted.

Ask xtreme or scoobysport

Cheers

Decat is leading to higher boost, and you're hitting the fuel cut designed to protect the engine from too much boost...probably What boost level does it happen at?

Sounds like the problem I had, appears to be an overboost issue. Mine started after I had had a decat and air filter put on. Answer is a Dawes boost controller I imagine. It really pissed me off as well.

The Dawes will restrict the boost to an acceptable level.

Bad choice of words, the Dawes will let you choose a level of boost that won't give you the overboost fuel cut......so I am lead to believe.

You could get a ScoobyECU but I'm not sure if they do it for your year of car.

A restrictor will do the same thing (and it's £6)

But I'd recommend getting a boost gauge... to get the correct size.

(I bought a SECS in the end)

sorry,

When I said it does the same thing, I mean it fools the ECU into thinking it's getting less boost than it is, so not shutting off the juice....

hense getting a boost gauge to monitor the true boost is a good idea.

I get the jerky thing as well, Pavlo has helped me out, but say I still get it? Would a restrictor not make you lose any power then? Mine starts at 15 on my gauge (psi I guess).

Dan you say it is like "hitting a limiter" well in my experience fuel cut feels more like hitting a brick wall.
If it is an overboost problem the car will be going like **** until the ecu starts to "fuel cut"
If it is an overboost problem check the vac/boost pipes for cracks and splits.
If you think the problem may be to do with the boost pack ( the plate on the o/s suspension turret which holds the boost solenoid , map sensor , ignition module etc ) I have a spare one which if compatible you can borrow bits off to try if it helps you.

Personally from the description it doesn't sound like fuel cut due to overboost to me IMHO

I dare say it's fuel cut mate as when you hit you jerk forward & end up head butting the wheel. Iv hit it about 120mph a few occasions too....

Aye exactly the same here. Like whacking the brakes on. I have total confidence in the skill of Pavlo so I will see what happens.

Dan,
Is the boost solenoid a 2 or 3 port ?
Have you had a re map after the decat ?
Is there a restrictor in the boost pipe still ?
Have you checked the boost pipes for leaks ?
Is the problem more pronounced on cold days ?

Wink

The JDM's have a 'cut' featured in the ecu to restrict speed. The scoobyecu will remove this and allow safer use on UK Optimax and SUL due to modified ignition/fuel maps. Oh and of course allowing increased boost too Speak nicely to David Wallis or Pavlo nicely for a scoobyecu (They are busy atm )
93-96 3 port solenoid.
