Misfire now won't start with the key?
#1
Was driving around normally and the car appeared to fuel cut for a second, approx a minute later a couple of "misfires" occurred. Went to McDonalds for a bite to eat came out and the car wouldn't start with the key.
With the kind help of an old School friend got the car going by bumping it.
Thing is now the car will NOT go above 2,000 rpm.
On tickover though the car idles perfect.
Anyone??
ECU is Apexi power FC

Id be tempted to see if you can still communicate with the ecu..
possibly try std ecu, see whay happens or if you get a CEL?
AndyF / JonnyGav might be able to shed somelight on it as they both know the Apexi.
The fact that it wont go above 2000rpm, could be some limp home mode??
Does it missfire, smell of fuel etc? does it still use a MAF? or is it MAP based?

The car still uses the maf sensor.
I now have the hand held commander for it and I can monitor everthing. Would I be able to check if the MAF has fialed using the hand held? The limp home thing sounds like a good therory, how would you explain the fact i cannot start the car with the key? When I turn the key the car turns over just like it always did just doesn't fire up.
Just tried to bump car and it isn't having any now.

alan.. if it wont start with the key but will bump then I would check the ground leads that connect the battery to the engine or the shell - engine and battery - shell.
Also check solenoid wire and main 12v for the solenoid..
Check battery voltage too.. low battery voltage could force limp home..

10.8volts = battery is well flat..stick it on charge to till it reads approx 13.5 volts
Problem may be due to a duff crank position sensor. If it can't pick up a good timing signal it will be very difficult to start, it may go into limp home, as it can't tell what RPM the engine is doing.

Battery is only three months old, and it is one of those heavy duty numbers from Halfords. Should I take it back? Thing is though, every thing else on the car power up and runs fine and the engine doesn't struggle on start up or fizzle out to a point where everything it won't do jack, it just keeps on cranking over without firing up. To add again, car won't even bump now
How (if) I got the engine going gain would I get the Power FC to return to "normal"?

It's possible that the battery is only flat from cranking it over. At 10.5volts there is basically 20% charge in it. I very much doubt Halford will accept it back - as it needs to be fully chaged to do a load test. (unless you get served by some numb-nut so there's every chance ).
I'm not saying the battery is knackered...probably just needs charging! You can't really go troubleshooting the starting issue until its been charged fully.
edit to add: If everything works ok as you say, then is your voltmeter duff ?

Right, a bit more info now.
Car will bump now every time, changed the cam sensor and the crank sensor and still nowt.
The guys who are working on the car are going more towards the idea that my problem is being caused by the immobiliser/alarm. The alarm is a Cobra and I want to know if anyone knows how this is removed in order to give this theory a go.
The other theory is there a fault within the Apexi Power FC. if that were the case does anyone know how to fault find the ECU?

It was all my fault
After installing my commander I replaced the ECU cover plate I caught some of the wiring loom and trapped some the cabling, over the weekend the stress on the cabling became too much and thus the above occurred.
