I have a MY96 UK car. There is an oxygen sensor in the downpipe that is connected to the ECU and is slowly dying.

There is also an oxygen sensor in the right hand manifold, with clipped off wires that obviously does absolutely nothing.

My dealer says that the o2 sensor should be in the manifold, and the workshop manual I have says downpipe. There appear to be no wires in the loom for the manifold one - so who is right? I'm now confused!!

I always thought the downpipe one was correct for MY96

Thanks

I guess the dealer got it wrong then... Just need to read the bosch part no off it now, and source the replacement.

I still wonder why my car's got that sensor in the manifold? I suppose the manifold could have been replaced at some point...

The one in the manifold isn't a custom jobbie maybe for tuning? Do you know the history of the car?

I'm sure it's a UK car. And I know (most of) the car's history - it's unlikely it was for tuning. I had another look for strange "extra" wiring in the manifold area today and there wasn't any except the fan wires and airbag wires - exactly as they should be...

Thanks all - you've proved I'm not mad (yet, at least!!)

I wonder why the Subaru dealer told me it was in the manifold? The said dealer is not usually tolerant about JDM cars!
(He did the VIN no. check and everything...)
