fuel smell - sti8
#1
Had PPP fitted at new.
Have just passed 5,000 miles in the first 2-3 months, but have noticed it regularly during that time. I guess mostly noticed when the tank has been filled up (I don't overfill it), and driven for a while.
Hadn't though of the Fuel Pump - good thought that one. Where is that located then ?
(Doh - you've answered that by mentioning the mounting plate !! - guess its stuck right on the tank then).
I'll phone the dealer tomorrow anyway, though thats a major pain due to the 1.5 hour drive there (and back).
In the meantime will try and log occurrences.

Has anyone noticed a significant smell of fuel from the back of their car? have a new Sti8 and over the last few weeks have noticed a smell of fuel from the rear of the car when parking up having been driving. Recent example was having driven 21 miles after filling up - on 'B' roads mainly. My passengers noticed it when they got out of the back of the car. Was most noticeable at the rear - both sides. Any ideas?

Has the vehicle had PPP fitted?
Only reason for asking is they have to change the fuel pumps, so may of spilt fuel into the sound deadening around the tank, or mis aligned the seal around the pump mounting plate onto the tank.
other than that, could possible be a loose pipe on the carbon cannister mounted under the O/S of the boot floor.
Best let a dealer check, dont want to waste any fuel the price it is now.
