Knocklink has never lit !
#1
I run an STI5 TypeR and it runs on Optimax and NF.
My knocklink sensor is mounted correctly and is working (tapped with object to test) It is set to max sensivity.
Has anyone any ideas as to why I have never seen my knicklink light up?
According to most of the threads on here, Jap cars are meant to det like hell, but I have still yet to see mine light up the second green light.
I have tried running without octane booster to see the effect, but still no det.
Is this just a sweet running engine or could there be some other underlying issue here?
*edited to say, when you near the top of the rev range, the second light comes on. I am putting this down to general engine noise.

Where is the sensor mounted?
You could try moving the sensor to see if you get noise elsewhere.
Are you sure the sensitivity is MAX and not MIN (not being funny but this has happened before).

Yours still standard?
Mines the same as yours by sound of it..
Max sensitivity, sensor mounted in recommended place, lights up when tap block/bolt.
I get 1st green light come on 'bout 6k flash of 2nd light at 7 something... might be just when i change gear then, not sure, its not on constant just a flash thou..

"My Knock Sensor is telling me that all is well but I don't believe it. Surely all scoobs det like buggery (According to some on scoobynet ). I want to know that my £120 is picking up summat bad so i can feel better"
If the sensor works, and it's not showing any noise, trust it otherwise you'd have been better off without it

What my car does , at around 4.5k rpm in 4th (this only happens if I nail the throttle) the knock link lights up briefly to the 2nd Orange LED
This coincides with Delta Dash readings, showing upto -2.5 negative degrees of knock correction
So the ECU retards the ignition at this point
Im happy that the knock link & delta dash readings match up
Im in the North West too, and I have Delta Dash (I might be able to connect it up to your motor and we can take a look at the readings, to see if you are getting any knock correction, from the standard sensor)

If you're not getting anything bar the normal dimly lit bottom LED, it could be because
I run an STI5 TypeR and it runs on Optimax and NF.

I have tried running without octane booster to see the effect, but still no det.

I know John
I am going to wind my boost down slightly, to see if that clears the detting and/or stick some OB in, and do some test runs, but what I tend to do is change into 5th at about 4k, before the activity appears, and DD shows no knock correction then too
It does only do it on full nailing of the throttle on full boost, taking the engine over 5k off boost in 4th shows no activity, therefore winding the boost down a touch should help

LMAO, it was a slip of the finger!!
Thanks for the replies.
Next time I need a fill up I'll go and stick 5 quids worth of supermarket fuel in and test it on the way from that garage to the shell garage to complete the fill up.
