I would like to know if the purchase of the Prodrive quickshift is well worth it? How does it improve the performance of the car?

It both tightens the gate and shortens the throw of the gear shift, giving a much better feel, and permitting quicker gearchanges.

It depends on how old your car is, as to how good it is.

For pre 97MY cars it makes a huge difference, and should almost be considered an essential modification.

For the 97MY cars (and particularly 98 MY cars onwards), the standard shift was vastly improved, so that whilst the Prodrive shift does make a positive difference, it's not as essential or good value as it was (in terms of gains).

I have a MY99 on order (should get it at the end of this month :-). My first test drive was in a MY98 with a quickshift and, since it was much better than my current Celica's shift (not difficult), I specified it on my new car. A couple of week later I had a drive in a prodrive'd MY98 with the standard shift and thought it was a smoother gearchange, albeit very slightly longer in throw. As a result I've replaced the quickshift on my new car with an air-filter, exhaust mod which caosts about the same and will, I think, give me a better return on my money.

However, I would always recommend someone try to testdrive cars with both shifts before making a final decision.

I pick my car up tomorrow morning.

How much is the Prodrive quickshift?
Are there any comparable options by other suppliers?
Are they easy to fit, i.e. Garage job or self fit?
