I was driving around on M40 earlier, and on a straight I thought, "Right!", put my foot down in 4th. To my unpleasant surprise, at about 4500rpm, the engine just stopped revving up, and it felt like it stalled for a split second, throwing me forward... did that about 3 times, it was like it was giving in.

It only did it when I booted it. Got scared and backed off, drove slowly after that for a while, and gradually sped up little by little, to see if it would do the same again, but (luckily) hasn't done it since.

I have no idea what's wrong with it. Could it be faulty fuel pump, or maybe a turbo related problem? Can anyone shed any light on the problem? I don't know if I've explained it well enough, but it happened a few times, can't really explain it better than that...
Thanks in advance

Its located on the drivers side suspension strut turret , it will have 2 or 3 pipes attatched and mine looks about the size of half a smartie packet. Look under the dash and find the green and black ecu reset/interrogate connectors, join the black and green connectors and turn the ignition on.DO NOT CRANK THE ENGINE.Press the accelerator fully and hold for a few secs , the car should go into a test cycle and the boost solenoid will operate at about 4hz.Spray brake cleaner into the holes make sure you protect your paint work ( and eyes cos it stings pmsl)also give the hoses you removed a clean, theres a restrictor in one of the hoses i think.Leave it for 10 mins to evaporate , then reassemble. You could also do an ecu reset if that would help.

Right. That's way too technical for me... over my head straight away, I might have to show that to my garage. I think I'll call him later.

"BE CAREFUL", brake cleaner actually softens the inner seals and causes damage, try using something a bit weaker in strength.!!

Had you been driving at a constant speed for while and then asked the car for some more?

Dunno if theres some weird black magic thing going on but guess what.... mines doing the same now ! Ive cleaned boost sol. maf and map foung a tiny split in the pipe from the t piece to the wastegate actuator so temporarily repaired the pipe and now the car isnt cutting out but isnt getting full boost either IMHO and the CEL is on. Gone dark now too so tomorrows job is see what error code i have got and maybe do an ECU reset.
Hope you have more luck that I'm having.......

Well got mine sorted - went to see Andy at GradeA and bought a s/h boost panel (£60.00) fifteen mins later and an ecu reset and all seems well.
Can only sing the praises of GradeA - thanks Andy

Steve

p.s. and Adam says thanks for the Subaru cap
