Personally, I am happy with my current APS upgrade stuff. the main parts of benefit would be the turbo back exhaust and the Unichip piggy-back. Price might be an issue for 'only' 30bhp, but you should end up with more, and would be a base for future work (up to a limit).
OK, lets just agree that I am a muppet who can't read! Just the Unichip can be an alternative to the Ecutek, and can be removed and sold separately later if required.

ECUTEK works great - most dealers can't tell it's fitted. 260bhp is on the cards with an ECUTEK and a backbox only.
Also works well with the APS gear, Neil. I have the APS turbo back exhaust with sports cat, scoobysport up-pipe, ported headers and an ECUTEK, giving 284bhp/272lbft, quite happy with that.
Edit to add - if you're only after discretion rather than warranty issues, change to a sports cat downpipe, a decat up-pipe and centre section, and port the headers, but leaving your original backbox - will give good power and torque gains, and still look standard.

As far as the modification being noticed, there's no difference to the actual look of the ECU, as the changes are made to the map within the original ECU via a laptop plugged into the port under your steering wheel.

As you can see from the list though, there's plenty of choice for your MY. I think I'd better leave recommendations to people who've actually had there's done, and ditto for reliability issues...!

I'm looking for a relaible extra 20-30bhp on a 2001 WRX. I want the mod to be fairly discrete so I'd prefer the chip/ECU tuning way as appose to the Exhaust/induction way. Can anyone tell me whats available and an idea of costs? - Cheers

I like the sound of the Ecutek, is there any way of visually telling that it has been fitted/adjusted or is the only difference the program contained in the cars ECU?
Has anyone had any relilability issues with a ecutek? Internal problems etc?
Where would be the best place to have one fitted?

I'd prefer to go down the route of unichip cus I've seen the results from this. Another mod that will compliment this Unichip is water injection. WI does not increase power but reduces the chances of blowing the HG. Don't let this worry ya, cus the results are amazing.
Have a search on unichip.....

ScoobyKev, I thought water injection reduces the ignition temperature, therefore reducing the chances of detonation, thus allowing more timing and boost...?
