I've been driving for about 3/4 of an hour.. not really driving hard, keeping at about 70.. when suddenly on comes the CEL and it stays on

so when i get home i connect the two green connectors, dont know if this is the right procedure, (2001 bugeye WRX) and its not showing any fault code ????

all it does is repeatedly flash abut 2 or 3 times a second. The car is still running fine , on & off boost , and i've done a thorough check of all hoses and pipes and can find nothing wrong. I've also checked the MAF which still looks nice & clean..

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

only thing i have notice which has been happening since yesterday is that I've started getting static shocks when i get out of the car.. Could this have anything to do with it ???

Phil

Could be. Unfortunately the new age cars don't have "read memory" connectors under the dash. The two green ones do the same thing as on the old cars - put the ECU into test mode.

The only ways to read DTC's on the >=01's is with a Select Monitor, DeltaDash, SECS etc.

Bugeye's can suffer from cam sensor problems. Mine's had two so far. Only happens when running close to red-line. If the fault is temporary it will reset itself after 5 engine starts. You need a dealer/specialist to read the ecu fault codes though. Mine ran fine even with the CEL on.

If it is the cam sensor it's a 5 min job to change. I'd take it in just to check though.

Best regards,

Ian

I've tried the "5 engine starts" and its still on..

I was only really driving it steady when it came on and never had it near the redline..

I'm going to go see if i can get it booked in somewhere tomorrow but thought I'd ask on here first as i dont really want to drive it far (just in case) and I'm not 100% confident in the company i got it from who are going to have a look at it...

thanks for the replies..

Any more ideas ???

Oxygen sensors are the other popular "spurious DTC" causes on new age cars apparently.

ok.. looks like , because i modded the air intake (i.e. got rid of the resonator/restrictor) the light is permenantly on.. what i need now is to do an ECU reset.. but how is it done on a 2001 WRX Bugeye ???

I left the battery disconnected for 2 & 1/2 hours.. i then let it idle till fans came on ...but still getting an ECU light

is there a way of resetting the ECU without having SECS etc ??

You need a DeltaDash or Select Monitor. Has to be said though that removing the resonator alone shouldn't be enough to create a DTC. Did you start the engine with the MAF sensor disconnected or something like that?

If not, it sounds as though "something" may have been dislodged while you were working. Suggest you go through everything with a fine tooth comb in the morning and see if you find any disconnected plugs.

If you don't, could possibly be that the altered airflow through the system is enough to make the MAF sensor misread, although I'd be very surprised if that is happening...

thanks GM.. I've taken note of what you've said..

I 've spent all this afternoon looking to see if i could've dislodged / broken something.. but it all seems ok.. I read that after the mod i did ,that maybe i would need an ecu reset.. but its a bit over my head is all that stuff..I did disconnect the battery for 2 1/2 hours , but didn't notice any different and the CEL is still on..
Its going back to where i bought it from in the morning ,although i dont 100% trust them to do diagnostic work.. hopefully it'll get sorted ..
