Could i have done damage ??
#1
decided to boot it last night and then bang... no power..nearly stalling then running sooooo rough, churning out black smoke i thought it had killed my scoob
Pipe from turbo to intercooler had come off, how i have no idea but i can tell you it was a right c**t to get it back on properly. Would this have done any damage, i got it back on this morning and it was very smokey (black) to start with but this cleared up and seems to run ok now apart from CEL came on a couple of times.
What should i check and what damage could this have done ??
Cheers

Was it the rather rigid black plastic affair that is standard on the uk cars? (except STi's) If so, ditch it and get a Samco or similar. The originals have been known to go pop! Because the air was entering via the intercooler your MAF sensor thought you had stopped! The ECU got very confused. As long as everything is now air-tight it should be ok I would have thought, but change that hose!

For the pipe to "blow off" sounds like either weak retaining clips on the hose, or too much boost pressure in the system for it to cope with. Normally the management system would cut the injector supplies, causing the engien to almost cut "dead", then re start almost immediately.
Black smoke denotes over fuelling
Blue smoke denotes oil contamination
White smoke denotes water ingress
Hope this clarifies things a bit for you

Seems to be running ok (as far as i know for a scoob-been used to a bmw,so anything sounds a bit noisey).
Yes it is a rigid black hose, and a real bstrd to get it into position !!
funny thing though, something seems to 'whistle' like a tdi escort i had many years ago- hope its not the turbo, or is that normal ?

never done mine any harm, car is pretty much undrivable with it off anyways, the samco replacement is a much better choice
much easier to get back on as well

you can buy some stronger hose clips from a company called Hose Direct. They will also do the samco hose for you.
I wouldn't think this would do any damage. Have done this on my old Turbo'd car before and it was fine there after.
