Think this is what my problem is

I had a Dawes fitted, and lost the original pipes, so I ordered some from the dealer, and picked them up today (expensive !!!)
(one pipe, one T-Piece, and one right angled pipe, 22 quid, the right angle pipe was 13 quid)

Anyway I digress,

I took the Dawes off, and put the new pipes on, and been out for a run, anyway im hitting 9 PSI max

But just looking through the parts again, I forgot to order the part called 'Orifice' which turns out to be the restrictor

Would this be the cause of low boost (combined with the Hot Weather)

Cheers

Steve

yeah, no restrictor will allow the boost to reach the actuator sooner and so opening it, limiting boost.
The RA i had boosted to about 13psi max (std) hot or cold weather, no differance, so its prob lack of restrictor.
Ed to say that my RA was non sti and 96my, probebly the same std boost as your motor.

Yeah, with complete removal it'll kill the held boost level as well as the spool. Don't forget the standard size restrictor for most cars is 1.2mm. Without it the bore of the t-piece pipe goes up to over 3mm!

Thanks guys, as I expected

Ah well back to the Dawes, till I either find my original pipes, or order this 'Orifice' from the dealers

Scoobynet Paranoia / Hot weather / ECU has no control over the boost

I wanted to see how my car was really behaving in the humid weather

Sonic, the, erm, orifices, are pretty easy to make from a brass woodscrew, piece of brass bar, whatever's handy. You should be able to get small drills fit for the purpose from a local tool supplier or model store.

I got David from jap -innov to order it for me, i think he has orderd it from the local subaru dealer, its not a part they keep in stock so its going to take around a week.

I tried one off another car but the hole was too restrictive was getting 1.2bar on full boost!....1.0-1.1 should be right.

OK, I confused now. Mine has a tee piece with the restrictor in and the pipe goes to the top of the boost soliniod, the other pipe goes to the boost gauge and the third pipe goes to the inlet manifold. the pipe from the turbo goes straight to the middle pipe on the boost soliniod. The bottom pipe on the soliniod goes to the actuator. Is this wrong. Can you tell the correct connects, please?

Thanks

mine is like this

Boost Solenoid to T Piece (centre bit)
Actuator to left side of T-Piece
Turbo to right side of T-Piece

the restrcitor should be in the pipe from the right side of the T-piece to the Turbo

Thats how it is on my MY00

I had this once after i'd removed my Dawes for something, the car was pants. Turned out that i'd put the pipe with the restrictor in it, back on the wrong way round Wouldn't have thought it possible, but by turning it round, problem solved

Mikey <Dawes back on now by the way and all is well >

Dont pay big money for the pipes if you lose them, resrictors and pipe+T-Piece cost me about £2.50 from a small car shop near me.

Talking

Steve,

I have a pipe with a P1 restictor (slightly bigger restrictor) in the garage doing nothing. I had it on before I got a tek 2.5. The tek 2.5 alreday does this so I don't need it. Interested ?

Dave.

P1 restrictor is smaller and will make a UK car overboost. Usually far worse than yours did Dave.

Can anyone tell me why I do not have a pipe from the boost solenoid to anywhere after the garage fitted my TurboXS boost device?

There is now a pipe under the solenoid with nothing on it.

Cheers Ian.

Ian236...the TurboXS REPLACES the boost solenoid. Hence not needing any pipes on it. The ECU has no control at all over the boost level when a dawes, turboXS or any other mechanical boost controller is used.

any one got a pic of the pipe, your on about and especially the restrictor, as ive fitted a boost controller, and new pipe,s noticed one of the std subaru pipes coming from thr tubo, going into the intercooler, had a section ,where it had been cut, then fitted to a ,sort of, section, to reduce its size, then another pipe coming from it to the, turbo section before the intercooler, is this the restrictor. mark

Still waiting for my restrictor, tried a P1 restrictor on my 97UK, was peaking boost at around 17-18psi....KnockLink and Lambda Link were reading fine.....is it ok to keep the P1 restrictor on?...or can it damage my engine in the long run due to too hogh boost?
