Hi guy's,

I have had a nasty blowing noise coming from the engine area for a while now (bout a month) and was wondering if there is any common faults with blowing manifolds etc on the WRX's...

It does sound like it could be exhaust related, it mostly happends when it's cold but it is less noticiable when hot.

I also had a bit of a misfire prob this morning, which might be related...fine now though...

Car is MY93 WRX Import with 60k miles...

Can anyone help...

Cheers,

John.

At idle, on boost?
Type of blowing noise? Blowing over bottle-top? Woosh?

Well it's kinda all the time, as soon as you touch the throttle it blows, its' a sort of farting noise if you like, sounds like a really bad blowing exhaust noise...but it's from the engine area...!!!

It only seems to be noisy when cold..

Sounds most likely. Cracked heat shields tend to rattle, I think?
Gaskets blowing springs to mind. Easiest way to see might be to have a look for soot around gasket areas (block/manifold, manifold/up-pipe, up-pipe/turbo (tricky one!), turbo/dp). But it'll probably get easier to see (and hear ) over time.

Probably a gasket,up pipe or the one at the back of the turbo.
