Hi i agree with DemonDave. I have just been through this with IM
Dealer said it was 60k on MY99 but there was a policy change. MY99=45k
MY00=60k
Same part number same belt ect, they just moved the goal posts.
Would still have the MY00 changed at 45k, £400.00 for a 45k service plus belt change is cheap, compared to a new engine.
edited to say i paid £458.00 including rear brake pads from main dealer.

It'll be expensive because it's a cambelt change at 45k.

I thought the cam belt interval changed in 2001? Not too sure...

Either way, I'd probably change it at 45k to be sure...
It's worth it if you don't do many miles in a year, as belts do degrade over time, and the consequences of a broken belt are a little extreme!

Then again, it doesn't cost me dealer money do a cam belt change.

Hi the £190.00 will be for the belt replacement only, not the service.

Well I've got the 45k service due in November and I've just got the car and it's only on 24k miles at the moment so will prob only be on about 30k by then. I was told that it depends on your chassis number as to whether it's done at 45k or 60k. I'm probably going to get it done under the 45k service regardless so at least then I know that it's done and I don't have to worry about it for another few years.

You should worry about it. Cam belt needs changing every 3 years regardless of mileage - £129 ish included in £450 service. Thousands if it fails.

White Scooby
As i said before there is no difference in the belts or parts used from My99 to MY00 There must have been a reason for IM to change the belts at 45K or 3 years which ever came first. Mine was changed at 42k, but was 3 years old, dealer was convinced it should be 60k checking on chassis No on there computer, even crossed it out in the service book, I was convinced it should be 45k so pursued with IM to be told 45k. Said this to the dealer and they said they had just had an update regarding MY99 its now 45K.
(Yes right)There is a great amount of knowledge on scoobynet, and people will tell you not to risk going to 60K for belt change, i would totally agree with them. If it lets go its big bucks.
And that would make £400.00 look cheap.

Ok ....

MY99 = 45k and three years
MY00 = 60k and four years

If you are not sure ring IM provide the reg and\or vin and they should tell you what is right for your car.

This is at the end of the 3yr warrenty. If you are not extending then you would be daft not to change at 45k no matter what, the engine could let go and no matter what the service book says IM would not pay (probaly)

If you have an extended subaru warrenty then the choice is yours as long as you have checked and agreed the service interval. The warrenty should cover if you are following the service guides.

Me MY00 extended warrenty. Changed the cam at 45k instead of 60k on advice of the dealer. Not worth the risk to me personally for the sake of £150-£180 quid even through I could claim on the warrenty. If not sure than get what ever the dealer says in writting.

Dave.

Gotta laff,

It seems like some folk can't live without summat to worry about

First it was O2 sensors, then shifted to clutches (geddit ) then MAFs, then detonation, now Cam belts. Think for ya selves guys and trust Subaru that the car has been designed well enough to cope with out moddest day to day inputs and demands on the car.

Mikey MY00 50,000 miles still on original cam belt because that's what me manual says

"shifted to clutches" ouch

Mikey,

Does your manual say 60k in both the schedule and service stamps area ?

Mine is as confused as anything schedule says 60 stamp area says 45.

Changed mine coz I have blown too many engines ... I am just jinxed

White scooby,
ProSport in Stockport (manchester, easy to get to if you want a day out ) did mine 2 months back, including the MOT, less than 400 quid all in (MY00 plus belt change at the same time).
Give Pete a ring (its an independant Subaru Speciallist) on 0161 432 9999.

Tony
