Right,
Am thinking of getting a triple set up for the dash. Ie. Boost, Oil temp, oil pressure.
Is this worthwhile ? Or should i go for a SECS monitor instead ?
Car is virtually standard, and is going to stay that way except for a full de-cat. But still want to keep an eye on things.
Any pros/cons with the two ?
Thanks
Johnny

Cheers Sonic.
All those views at the thread and you're the only one with an opinion !
Ta mate. I really like the SECS for everything it can do. But prefer the look of the triples.....
Guess i'll have a look around, see whats on offer.
cheers

I'd still get a Boost gauge anyway, can be bought cheap, it is easier to watch a needle for boost pressure rather than digital.
I am then thinking about a dual digital SPA gauge for oil temp and pressure.
But then SPECS is out of my price range and not even a consideration.

Yeah, they are pretty pricey.
And as you say, the advantage of watching a needle rather than the digi gauge would be better.
There was a thread not too long ago on triple gauges with a pod for about the £200 mark..may opt for that just now.
Cheers for replying Jolly

My post just got deleted????? Help
Lucky I cut and past it..
The £200 one you speak of was Scott T's.. If I notice his thread I'll add a link.. but I know his gauges came from
www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk
and pod I think from either ggr or www.j-spec.co.uk

Cheers Harvey, tried to have a look at your site but i'm gettin no response from it.
JGM, yep, it was Scott T. Merlin motorsport and J-spec.
Looks good, and they really suit the car..
Also not sure if the SECS will look a bit out of place being digital...
I'm a fussy bugger !
I presume that the SECS is going to be a lot easier to fit, does it not just plug into your ecu plug under the dash ?

Hi Johnny: I have a dog too. 21/2 yr old Doberman x from the RSPCA. Got it at 7wks to avoid it being put down and I have been very lucky as it has turned out to be an exceptionally intelligent animal. I recon it will be one of the fastest dogs in the country at 160+.
With 450 bhp there are tremendous overtaking opportunities and there is fun to be had surprising exotic machinery with a turn of speed they cannot match. What makes this all the more fun is that the car looks standard from outside apart from a set of 17" Super Leggeras and Carbon Fibre WRC mirrors which are only on the car for the improved aerodynamics.
The car has done the 1/4 at Elvington in 12.28 secs at 116mph with 159mph at 1.2 mls but I am very disappointed with that. The problem is the long gearing I have been running and the fact that this engine is a bit asthmatic by 7k even with a red line at 8k. I am working on that so 13th July at Elvington will provide me with useful feed back. I do expect to better my 1/4 time subject to weather. At Bruntingthorpe the car was recorded at 172 mph two up but that is longer than 1.2mls.
I must say that after a while you get used to the power and acceleration on tap and then want more. To that end, at the end of May I agreed with Matt Clark at Roger Clark Motor Sport to start on my next engine. A 2.2litre CDB has been sleeved down to 2 litres and I already have a 75 mm billet crank and RCMS pistons. My aim is to approach 500bhp reliably from 2 litres and then I may look at a bigger capacity engine. The existing engine has done well over 20,000 miles since Matt rebuilt it 15 months ago and it has been totally reliable with an output in excess of 400bhp for the last 12 months.
With my experience of the existing engine I know what works so the spec for the next engine is not in any doubt.
Regards,
Harvey.

Hi Harvey..
No wonder you need all those guages then !!
Sounds awesome. I've only had the scoob for 2 months now, and finding it a bit sluggish compared to my previous Cossie.
Would love to spend some wedge and get it as quick as the cossie was, but the whole reason for buying it was so that the wife to be can drive it, oh..and for the Dog !
Sounds like the new engine will be a stormer !
Do you use the car daily ?

Thanks for that JGM and yes the car is a daily driver but if I am only going round the corner or to the farm I use my £850 J Reg. Fiat Tipo 1.9 TDS. There is something wrong with it because the boost guage goes off the clock, on accelleration it blows out black smoke and if you are gentle it will only do 40mpg. I am thinking of taking it round Croft next time.
I do not like to give the STi 6 Wagon cold starts if I can help it but Glasgow and back or Swindon and back same day is a regular occurance.

No worries Harvey..
You have a VERY nice car.. not the Tipo.. you can keep that
I know what you mean about the travelling though.. I currently do 500 to 800miles a week.. but try to use a motorcycle as much as possible... as the Scooby clock keeps lying too me.. surely it cannot really have done 126500miles can it?!
I hope it hasn't as that is a lot of Optimax ... LOL

Mine is a MY98 R, i bought the SECS and it wouldnt work, the port it plugs into under the dash did not have the correct wiring.
PSI3 are depeloping SECS for pre 99 cars at the moment, i have given my unit back to PSI3 and put Defi's in my car..

Typical eh..
Bit bizzare considering how many Imprezas there were before 99!
Where did you mount the Defi's ?
I'm still considering the centre pod as opposed to pillar mount.

Looks good Bah.
Really nice guages, thats along the lines of what i was wanting.
Looks like i dont have any option but to go for guages now, seeing as the SECS wont work.
Think i'll have to save though to get the Defis. They look ace.

If I were starting from scratch again I would have a serious look at the SECS.
At present I run 3no. SPA guages in the centre console monitoring six perameters. In addition I have a pod mounted EGT for the collector and down pipe temps and a SPA microprocessor which is an extremely accurate speedo with numerous add ons for timing etc.
The guages are swichable from green to red background, variable back light, deg F or C,psi, bar etc and really useful is the max recall and variable tell tale warning lights which can be set individually to any setting.
Very accurate and real profesional.
Look here: www.geocities.com/harveysmith3000 for a picture of the set up.
