I've been looking into this for some time. Other than the easy mods de-cat, induction kit, my car is standard MY'99. On the rolling road i get 57 deg after the I/C this needs lowered. Do you get much lag with a front mount, and yes i've heard to be used at high levels of tuning. i thought maybe off set the loss with a hybrid turbo. any real opinions?

Wouldn't bother with the little TD04 that you have - certainly not for the cash involved! To lower temps you could just fit a water spray deely (cheap) for the occasions it's needed - it's nice to have low intake charge temperatures, but 57C I wouldn't have thought is high enough to cause problems, really, especially as it was on a RR!

I have a Cusco fmic fitted on Type R,on the rollers was seeing 35degs,but on the road gets down to 25degs,you won't really notice that much difference in lag.Alan

Some cars are up in the 80s C on some rollers after a run. If your car is at standard boost the intercooler is adequate - I suspect if you thrashed it for 10 laps around Knockhill at standard boost in this weather it would get into the 50s, but the rest of the car wouldn't be up to doing more than 10 laps in one go anyway without compromising reliability probably. If you want more power then a bigger turbo and better fuel pump is the place to start. If you want to run more than 1.2 bar on this then a FMIC makes a better case for itself.

Cheers guiness that's what i was looking for.

I'm planning to take the car up to 280-300bhp pretty shortly so the boost will be going up but i don't want so much boost as to get any det, and i agree with aquamist is just a way of fixing a problem that shouldn't be there in the first place. I actually want the FMIC for performance reasons rather than worrying about high scavenge temp. what do you reckon to FMIC with Hybrid turbo. (and usual de-cat). i reckon about 16psi should be pretty safe???? I'm at a loss here because i've been out speaking face to face with 3 "specialists" and i get a different reply from each!!!!

You could easily achieve what you want at the boost level your specify by only changing the turbo, intercooler hose, fuel pump and the ECU. There is no need to change the intercooler for performance or safety if you only want 280-300 BHP which is hardly tickling these engines if setup correctly. You will get more lag from a FMIC, I've got somewhere my before and after FMIC acceleration logs and there is a longer recovery time on gearchanges. Some people have actually lose time on the 1/4 mile from switching to a FMIC. However, you can't beat them when you get substantially into the 300s BHP. But for only 280-300 it is a waste of money and throttle response I reckon.

See my profile. Yes I do, and so far I've not blown up my engine running 26 PSI held boost. I don't recommend you do the same, but as I say 16 PSI done properly will barely tickle it.

John, Had a look on your website and it looks to me like i need to get the parts on first the come and see you? 300bhp was just a start point since i have a bit of cash at the moment, what do you say to an HKS hybrid turbo, the hoses you said(from performance exhausts?), then the usual de-cat and filter(I'm running HKS induction, good mixture on the rolling road). after thats all fitted i should come for a re-map? boost gauge and knocklink are on the way already.

Yes I only do the ECU stuff.

I would skip an expensive hybrid turbo for only 300 BHP.

Any of the VF turbos or a TD05 would do the job nicely.
