I assume the best oil filter to use will be an original one from Subaru... how much are these babies, and do I need a specific one to fit my MY99 STI5 ?
What oil would you recommend using for the car? mobil one motorsport?
Cheers lads

Genuine Subaru oil filter £7.65 from GGR
Sump plug washer 84p
Will cost you around £10 incl p&p
Most people on here recommend 10W50, 10W60 or 15W50 grade on here, Castrol RS, Motul 300v. Do a search and decide yourself as theres loads of info on here about it.

Wotcha Paul,
You could try giving David Hunt at Crossroad Garage near Liss a call on 01730 233700.
Can't remember the exact price but I know he said they're one of the cheapest OE parts suppliers coz of the bulk buying they do.
Worth a call anyway.
Cheers,
Steve

POC: Get 5ltrs of Motul 300V, genuine OE filter and sump plug washer from Scoobymania for ~£50. Piece of pi55 Motul is the best oil i have tried out of Castrol RS, Valvoline and Mobil.

I also found to many conflicting threads to make a decision.
I mailed John Banks and he gave me this reply:

Motul 15/50 Fully synthetic
NGK PFR 7B
Use Subaru parts for the fuel filter, oil filter.
ITG panel filter works well, but the standard STi one is also fine

Not sure why 15-50 or more?Isnt the thinner the better for cold s/ups,lubrication,performance?
I run Mobil 0-40 or 5-50,Castrol 0-40,Redline 5-30 or 10-40
Car has 150K kms with 390+hp at fly .
