OIL

Can anyone actually measure the oil level on their car accurately?
My dipstick seems to get coated every time i remove it / wipe / read.
Is there a preferred method for this?

You can jack up the rear of the car by exactly 48 degrees and the oil will be level with the dipstick socket, you can actually see the oil level so no need for the dipstick itself.
- note don't jack to 50 degrees or you will have to clean your drive

I seem to have the same problem too - it's very hard to read the level as i don't seem to get a good clear line of oil on the dipstick to judge where the level acutally is.
I hadn't tried wiping the dipstick twenty times yet, mostly I took a guess after three or four goes.
Is this something to do with the twisting of the dipstick as it goes in/out of the tube it sits in?

Use a black permanent marker, and colour in the end of the dipstick, the oil shows up clearly against the black.
Also when dipping push it in quick and pull it out quick..
