Can anyone actually measure the oil level on their car accurately?
My dipstick seems to get coated every time i remove it / wipe / read. Is there a preferred method for this? |
drain all the oil out into a measuring jug, then pour it back in :D If you have 4.5ltrs you are alright ;)
|
You can jack up the rear of the car by exactly 48 degrees and the oil will be level with the dipstick socket, you can actually see the oil level so no need for the dipstick itself.
- note don't jack to 50 degrees or you will have to clean your drive ;) |
I have this problem James. It takes about 20 wipes to make it readable...

I seem to have the same problem too - it's very hard to read the level as i don't seem to get a good clear line of oil on the dipstick to judge where the level acutally is.
I hadn't tried wiping the dipstick twenty times yet, mostly I took a guess after three or four goes. Is this something to do with the twisting of the dipstick as it goes in/out of the tube it sits in? |
Just put the dipstick straight in with the top of the oilcan symbol nearest the windscreen.. you shouldn't have to twist it to get it in or out.

Mines the same.........
Cant get 48 degrees with my jack, is there something wrong with it? Col |
Use a black permanent marker, and colour in the end of the dipstick, the oil shows up clearly against the black.
Also when dipping push it in quick and pull it out quick..:o Later Yoza Happy dipping.........PS were is the dipstick:confused: |
