Dodgy lambda - reads which way?

I think my lambda is on the way out... I don't used closed loop at all, so it only affects me little lights on the AFR but just want to check... do the readings get lower when it's 'going off' (ie read 0.84v - for example - rather than 0.88v)? So for the same real AFR give the impression of running leaner? (Also, for a car that runs closed-loop it would start getting less economical)?
Just interested... and hope it is the lambda or something odd is going on!

Normally they read lower as they "wear out" so the factory ecu ends up running the car richer on cruise, makes no difference on boost though.
