There are various ways to do it. Depends on the MY of your car and type of speedo drive.
If you have an early car (like mine) with a cable drive to the speedo, you can either get an inline gearbox jobby for your speedo cable wchich basically slows it down and hey presto your speedo now shows mph rather kph (and as the speedo goes to 180 you should never hit the limiter) or you can get a little electronic gizmo to remove the speed limiter.
Later cars need just the electronic gizmo for the speedo (I think)

thanks Stu,
i have a 93 wrx wagon - i am going to jappfest and want to be able to go over the 112mph restrictor for obvious reasons. (i have track time )
i have just heard that jamie @ j-w-racing does a kit.
anyone use it?
cheers weave'

Mista Weeva,
Phone Eurospec 2000, they are somewhere near camberly.
I'm trying to find their new number as they have moved office.
They will sell you the mechanical doobry that does the job.
The speedo cable is in 2 parts, the doobry fits between these 2 bits. There is a clip that holds the 2 bits of the cable together. Unclip this, clip the delimiter into the bottom bit, use the clip to secure it, then do the same to the top end.
Job done.

Why not get an ECU remap?
ScoobyECU Guys (& myself) can do it at a very reasonable cost (IMHO ) & give you performance increases to boot.
If in doubt get quotes from the others for just the limiter removal, then come back on here & ask for references from peeps with regards to the performance ECU upgrade (that includes free speed limit removal).

You know what I think - go with the remap
(so I'll have to mod my car to keep up with you... )
<John Banks mode >
Just get a boost gauge and knocklink...

dave,
you will need more than an ecu remap to keep up with me buddy!
will the ecu remap rid me of the limiter or is it purely a mechanical thing? i don't quite get why i need the ecu remap, when chocky says it is mechanical ?
obviously an ecu remap is great! but do i need it for the de limiting - if someone can clarify this i will be grateful - also how much is an ecu remap generally, and what are the sort of power gains? how does it work is it by upping boost or what ??
the options are interesting thanks guys for helping me out.

ECU map removes the limit set in the ECU.
93 WRX wagon has a TD04 turbo, and I for one don't have a base map (nor does anyone else to my knowledge).
To get such a map, someone would need to suck the standard map out of the ECU via the select port and modify it.

I believe its only a wiring job. I had a STI 3 & my delimiter cut back in, Took it to Scoobysport & it was simply the wire used to do the delimiting had dropped out of the back of the speedo, so guess give pete @ scoobysport a ring & he may shed more light.
My car had not been remapped as far as I knew

With regards to speed de-limiting there are two approaches:
1) Mechanical jobby to trick the ECU into seeing less speed than acual (the plus side to this is that you can also convert KPH to MPH if you want to change your guages).
2) The other way is change the speed cut limit in the ECU.
Each has it pros & cons.
Paul,
I've got a MAP from an Auto WRX Wagon (TD04) if interested.

Chris, can you be so kind as to mail me the map please?
Mapping software now shows map access, plots boost, AFR or anything else over the fuel and ignition maps, will add power measurement too a la delta dyno.
onwards and upwards
Cheers
