Question

Just wondered as sometimes when stopped at lights in traffic etc the idle goes down a fair portion below the usual 1000RPN around 600 going on the dial. Now a quick blip of throttle seems 2 remove this & it doesnt stall or owt doesnt even sound unhealthy lumpy etc But i no this can be symptom of MAF problems etc & dont wana risk anything more going pear shaped if signs are there!
So wot r possible causes? & Wot is best way 2 check for them?
Cheers
Simon

Me thinks you are flapping about nothing.

When you blip it do the revs rise then settle at 1k?

If in doubt get the readings checked out on Delta Dash or similar to show what the ECU is doing at idle - Merv @ PE diagnosed a dead MAF on my MY99 by looking at that........

Does it do it more when the engine is hot? Thought I read somewhere that this could be a sign of a worn/failing Lamda Sensor.

Sounds promising as yes it does retuirn to 1000RPM when i blip throttle so all good it wood seem may ask Roger Clarkes 2 check it over when im in 4 service in a month or so just 2 quell the paranoia (wot paranoia? who said that!)

I was sure i'd red it sumwhere about symptom of dodgy MAF or lambda thingamy (technical genious hat on) hence y i was asking the question so i just wanted 2 check it wasnt guna mean i was running idle or sumin that might mean more serious damage but if it's just a minor glich with no real consequences than i can put paranoia on back seat I CAN I CAN I CAN!!!!!

Before too much paranoia, check you're reading it right - the first mark is 500rpm (it doesn't show below that). Then, it should be reading at about 800rpm - not 1,000.
Typically, from 3k rpm (or somewhere above idle, anyway), if you hold at 3k & then release the pedal, it should drop fairly quickly down to around 1,200, pause very briefly, and then steadily lower itself down to around 800.

The reason I asked wether it returns and remains at 1k is because mine doesn't. When it is warm it idles at around 600rpm and stays there.

Maybe something is wrong.

Cool

Good point by nom in that like the infamous retard i am i had marginally overstated the RPM it was going down to. Namely that it is more like 800RPM but it does still sumtimes do it there & sumtimes at 1k which as mentioned seems a little unusual & fear inducing P1 chappy how did they discover it was yer oxygen sensor is that same as lambda or am i reading from wrong page again

Scoob Si, They put it on the diags.

My check engine light was coming on , ONLY in the morning, before the car was warmed up, then it went off after 30seconds. apart from that I was never the wiser... the only tell tale sign was the REVS dropping off .. nightmare... :-)

Have u got it sorted yet m8'..?
