I have just bought a 95 wrx straight from japan, as this is my first hopefully someone cvan answer a few Q's for me.
Will it be 280 bhp?
Where is the best place to get the bits for the SVA?
Where is the best place to get parts to service it eg, plugs, filters, etc?
How difficult is it to remove the dash to do the req speedo mods?
On arrival i will change the oil, coolant, new plugs, air filter, is there anything else i should do, or look out for?
I will be changing the exhaust which is the best to go for, what will be the performace difference between a full system and a back box?
anytrhing i should know please inform me!
cheers toppo

nick is right, the 95 wrx is 257 bhp (260ps) but thats using 100ron fuel
it will be a little less with super unleaded(97ron), for the health of you engine always use super or optimax(shell) as using 95ron will damage your engine.
as for SVA parts have a look at www.importcarparts.co.uk
also for more info of things going on in the north east have a look at www.tyneteesscoobies.com
our next meeting is on tuesday comming, get your self along!
its free to join and members get a discount at a few well known subaru parts outlets.

check out the FAQ http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm
It's not been kept up to date but the stuff you will need will be fine.

Would suggest you change the cambelt, then get some headlight covers (best thing i ever bought after losing one light to a stone & cost of £180ish), then fit an alarm - it'll come into the country without one.

Martin - If you note your details from the VIN plate from under the bonnet (GC8*****) and then look at the FAQ on www.sidc.co.uk it will tell you how the engine is rated i.e 240 or 260

Japanese Domestic Market ie Jap origin
I wood b very careful about 2 spoon technic on dials also as while many have used successfully i have killed 2 rev dials doing the white dial thing & wood recommend if u can get a spare needle & melt old un off with soldering iron etc & thus put no stress on spindle (which has tendancy 2 pop out when any upwards pressure put on it!!) unless imports have a reinforced dash n all

been there done that m8. bought a 95 wrx JDM in december last year and have luved every minute of it. my machine was already sva'd when i bought it but it had its 60000 km service done (cam belt etc etc. within the first couple of weeks i had a new lockwood 180 mph white dial kit put on.(looks nice in a white car) one point i would make about the dials, get someone who has done this before because some of the dials can be a real pain in the **** to remove(2 spoons and a hairdryer help here).
i also managed to get may hands on a set of sti6 4 pot calipers with 297mm discs and pads fairly cheap. had them fitted with braided brake lines and believe me they made a world of difference because the 2pots that are on the car are crap.
my motor came with a 5zigen back box with a 5" tailpipe. sounds really good. but if you are looking for a little more power then a decatted downpipe will do the business for you. i would recommend the Hayward and Scott, but read the other threads and takes your choice. it certainly make a differnce in spool up of the turbo.
other mods on the cars so far are a dawes device, which is just a cheap way of increasing boost but you really need to take some precautions in that are as the car might be prone to detonation (Det or knock as it is called on this board). in that regard i had an air flow meter (AFR) gauge and knocklink fitted along with an adjustable rate fuel pump.
alarm is a must for insurance purposes and must meet certain criteria (well it did for me). i would also think of investing in some nitrous formula octane booster. this helps the crap SUL we get in northern ireland as we cant get shell optimax here. it also help if you get caught short and you are in the ar$ehole of nowhere, because you can stick unleaded (95 ron) in the motor, whack in some booster and you have at least 98 ron fuel.
hope this has helped (can you tell i luve me motor). believe me once you get bitten by the modding bug it is difficult to stop.
cheers
