ok, ok, after 3 years I *know* I should know this stuff, but I don't, I'm thick! lol
Right I do know how to to ECU reset on MY94 WRX, so that's something
Got a txt from a friend of mine, 94 WRX, said that his check engine light comes on after maybe 5 - 15 mins of driving, if he makes a complete stop, then light extinguishes, proceddes for another 5 - 15 mins, comes back on, then if he stops, goes out, repeat to fade.
So, first question, any ideas what the problem could be (engine and every thing 'sounds' fine - his words not mine)
now a good solution would be to get the code from the CE light, but I can't remember how to do this. I *think* it involves the black or green plugs under the dash, ie; similar to engine reset, then you turn on ignition and 'count' the pluses of the CE light.
Can someone confirm to me, a) how exactly you get the info to be displayed on a 94 WRX, and b) anyone got a complete list of the errors and what they mean?
Thanks

Markus .. really !
As Dave says - & from the explination, it sounds like it's the Oxygen sensor. they normally give the CEL ,then nothing, CEL, then nothing. but it should have it stored, if you check the proceudre (2 black connectors!)
Cheers

Connect black connectors under the dash, usually taped back with blue tape... turn on ignition and check engine light flashes tje code.. look it up on the saxon fields site.. (Chris Palmers website).
Reset is black and green connected, ignition on and foot on throttle to floor and back to halfway and hold for about 3minutes.. start engine and drive (treat it gently) and reset is complete when okay code (steady 1 per second flash) or error code is displayed.
Sensors are easy to change, wel relatively.. probably the Lambda which is in the exhaust (although might be in manifold depending on year) is probably the hardest..

Markus this sounds like the problem that I have got at the moment but with mine once the car is up to temp the CEL stays off.
Also when the CEL is on the car is very slugish and feels like it holding back.

Do the fans run when it is lumpy Martin?
Probably the coolant temp sensor.. the ecu cannot be sure what temp the car is at so puts the choke on and the fans on so it runs if the engine is cold but doesn't over heat if hot..
You really should check the ECU History though to be sure.

I suspect they would try and wriggle out of it on wear and tear but worth a try, they might be able to get the sensor for a reasonable price, but check elsewhere first.
You have a couple of options I think..
GGR sell sensors although not sure about coolant, and are reasonably priced.
Grade A Subaru sell secondhand ones or local dealer would sell you one, but might be fussy that it is an Import..
Also I think Midland Impreza do them.
The websites of the above plus others are found on this site
lots of links
...and absolutly no problem

Just had a look at my warranty manual thing and it says that sensors are covered so I shall check the CEL again and give it a whirl. As you say it is worth a go.
Thanks again you have been a great help.
