Question

Hi, got a recurring problem with my MY97 UK turbo

Every now and again I get symptoms like a misfire at high rpm (5000+) but sometimes it doesn't happen.

I've replaced the plugs with HKS Iridiums, I've replaced the plug leads with new ones. I've even swapped the induction kit. The turbo's new, thi intercooler is new MRT top mount and the hoses are all Samco and I have an MRT Inlet pipe.

It's run on optimax with 100mls NF per fillup.

Anyone any ideas before I start replacing other stuff randomly?

Lambdalink shows the top green when it happens and EGT (near lambda in downpipe) is never above 650-675.

Could it be a dodgy MAF?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Rich

Yes, Steve, it's my brother's car.

Funny you should say that about a bad earth as it's a bit of a pig to start sometimes. I'll look into this, Ta.

Whizkid, cheers but this car is a 97 so doesn't have coil packs, it has spark plug leads and I've just replaced them all, because i thought it was that too.

Hi Rich,
I had a similair problem on a MY00,I had misfire type symptoms at higher revs(full boost sometimes) and mainly in 4th gear!
I checked plugs and leads out but to no avail. But it turned out to be a hose which was not conected. It runs under the turbo infeed pipe behind the MAF,and seems to feed into the carbon? canister.maybe the car was drawing to much air?I refitted and after a few miles the problem disapeared.
I dont know if this will help you but sometimes it's silly things like this that cause problems.

I'll check that out too Pete, cheers.

But I'm normally pretty good for making sure hoses and things are nice and tight.

AHA!

Just found a great big split in the pressure feed leading from the inlet manifold to the fuel pressure reg.

Replaced it now, so I'll see if that cures it.

Cheers
