Help fitting downpipe
#1
Trying to fit a decat downpipe to a 96 wrx.
Got to the point of having the two bolts closest to the centre of the car to undo but couldn't get the f*ckers to undo, one of nuts has started to round. I'd used copius amounts of freeing fluid but there was no moving these bolts.
I'd taken the intercooler off, all of the heat shielding, etc and got stopped by these bolts. I've reassebled everything, but am going to try again this weekend, so any advice on how to get these last 2 bolts off would be really helpful!
On another note, when I took the intercooler off, I replaced the standard Y pipe with a samco replacement. Anyone else thinking of doing the same should not hesitate! Just make sure you get secure the samco hose on properly, cos it's not funny if it pops off

I think the SN format scrambler got to David's diagram but a six sided socket is better than a 12 sided one.
The tool of choice is a 14mm rachet spanner, about £7 in Halfords. These are good because they are not cranked so all the force goes through the centre of the nut and none of your effort is trying to twist the socket off the nut. If the nut is a tenacious little bugger, you can slide an 18" tube over the spanner for even more leverage.

Or a nice 14mm Snap-on Flank Drive Spanner.. with a 17mm to link over the end...
Ratchet spanners wont usually take that amount of torque..
Check the specs of the spanner before you buy.

Well when I fitted my Up-pipe under the weekend I snapped two bolts ...the good thing with a grinder is you don't have to loose a finger or two when they snap off

Yeah, my tools..
You need a socket that grips across the flats and not on the corners..
looks more like:
