I noticed today that the spare wheel well in my boot was literally full of water! When I whipped out the spare there was about 6inches of the stuff in there! Presuming that its rain, where can it be coming from? I checked all the bootlid rubbers and they dont seem split anywhere, and I tried pouring water over the bootlid from a watering can, but noner seemed to go inside. The little space where the jack sits also had about 4 inches of water in it. The turret where the spare wheel retaining bolt screws in in also full. The odd thing is that the boot carpet seemed to be only slightly damp, I would have expected it to be soaked! could the stuff get in from underneith?? I pulled out the rubber bung from the wheel well to let out the water and have left it out for now. Has this happened to anyone else?

Check the seals on your rear lights. Could also be the rear windscreen leaking.

I had the same problem when I replaced my standard lights to the STI ones. Probably needs another layer of sealant. Mines cured now.

Well, looks like those who said the lights were right! The nearside one had a lot of water around it when I checked it last night. I took off the nuts to get it out and it seems to be stuck fast in the mastic that is already there, I am wondering if the previous owner had tried to seal it by adding a load of the stuff at some earlier date. Going to try adding another layer to see if that will seal it.
Thanks to all who replied.

check the vent boxes below the jack on the pass side, and in a simular position on the drivers side , they can let water in if they are upside down. I had this problem with my car

To do the job properly, you will need to remove the lights (right pain in the a--se). Then reseal with a fresh layer of sealant.
