Error codes 32 &53!!
Had to re-register due to knackered hard drive on pc and didn't keep details of original password, so not really a 'newbie'
.
On way home from work tonight CEL came on for about 5 seconds and then went off (is it supposed to stay on?). I did an error code check and two codes appear to be present, 32 & 53!. I know 32 is the oxygen sensor but how safe is it to drive round with this being possibly faulty and can you do a DIY check on it or do I need the dealer to check it out?
What is code 53? :confused I can't find any info on this code.
cheers

Try http://www.saxonfields.freeserve.co.uk/
the chart stops at code 51, so I don't know what 53 is
Unless you meant "35" which is the purge control solenoid valve?
What MY? This may make a difference to the error codes and the checking...

The car is a MY99 UK turbo.
I had a list of error codes with me when I was checking and noticed that it stopped at 52. I kept checking and it was definitely 5 long flashes followed by 3 short flashes

Well my 2 codes were 42 & 11. 11 was self inflicted as I removed the cable to the crankcase sensor, allowing car to crank over on the starter for circulating oil to the new turbo fitted prior to starting the car. I don't know if 42 would be connected with this. Will clear memory tomorrow and see if I get it happening again.
Basically car appears to be over-boosting since new turbo was fitted but will see if fault returns following the reset.

According to the dealer's diagnosis, code 53 is to do with the codes for the 'chip' in the ignition key. Apparently an old code had re-surfaced and the ECU had picked up on this.
As we know code 32 is the oxygen sensor and I'm having this replaced in 2 weeks (£90).
There was a MY00 in at the time having it's oxygen sensor replaced but apparently the CEL had not come on in his case. He was a mechanic and had tested it himself and found it to be faulty.
