Question

1)

a)how harmful can an atmospheric bov be on a standard car?
b)what about a slightly modded car? (say a full decat and a boost controller)

2)

a)can you avoid a rich mix when using an atmospheric bov on a standard car?
b)and on a modded car?(again for example a full decat and a boost controller)

thanks a lot,
kotaro

I have heard it can cause a lot of problems mainly due to the MAF not knowing how much air there is in the system. Cannot help much more than this really. sorry.

Talking

I'm running a Blitz bov with full de-cat and a profecB boost controller and had no probs for the last 3 yrs I've had the car.
Gives nice flames as well which is a bonus

I'm running full-decat and forge bov and seen no problems. No flames yet though

elgordano -

I could be wrong, but a full decat should lean out the mixture, which the atmo bov has richened back up. A case of one balancing out the other, I would expect.

So I'm not going to expect any flames unless I get a flame kit or re-map the ECU to run slightly rich again.

If my theory is correct, then yes.

Dump valves only open when you lift off the throttle, if you've got your foot to the floor there's no difference between recirc and vent ones as they're both shut! When you lift off the recirc one puts the air back in the system while the vent to atmosphere just dumps it (obviously) so the ECU thinks there is more air in than there really is so over fueling hence the poppin/flames etc.

I really don't think this causes a lot of trouble and i've had mine on for a while now and haven't had the slightest bit of bother.

Damn - I should get more flames then with a recirc one...

The vent to air would do my head in after a while!

I thought the vta would be too noisey as well but under normal driving conditions you don't hear it. It's only when you are under boost and lift off to change gear you get the pppssstttt !!

Thumbs up

Thanks a lot for the replies . So basically the damage made by the momentary rich mix when lifting off is none? I thought this could bring problems to some engine components or some roughness (sp?) when shifting?

thanks,
kotaro
