Default Tick/Tapping noise

Just looking for some reassurance regarding my JDM hawkeye STI. Is this noise on cold start up fairly normal for these? Once warmed, it basically goes away completely.

These are new to me and I've heard they can be noisy, but just thought I would check. Thanks!

From what I can hear it sounds like piston slap if cold of course. If if not look out I'm afraid.

Forged engines usually suffer more from it but some oem engines also. Some do some don't.

So potentially a forged unit? I know they are semi forged from factory, but there isn't much in the way of it's Japanese history.

The jdm engine are not forged from factory haven’t been since the late 90s.
like the others have said sounds like piston slap. If it’s not using oil or coolant. Don’t worry about it, enjoy it, I’ve been where you are have a new car and worry about every new noise you hear.

Potentially. But then my previous engine that was standard was a bit slappy too. As mentioned above, if there are no other issues then don't worry about it.

Mine sounds EXACTLY the same when blipping the throttle. Mine's a forged 2.1 with about 6-700 miles on it.

My E207 block with Mahle/Manley has been doing the Tik Tap since installation , wirh 3k the metalic sound is starting to dull back down a bit as it settles. Oil use shows down just 3-4mm from top mark on 10-60 Motul. Shows 5-6 bar at 1000rpm at 85deg C you might hear a different slightly louder ticking noise developing after the warm up Phase as rpm drops. Nothing to worry about,
