Default Rough Idle 1999 Impreza GC8 EJ201

Hi everybody, I have 1999 Subaru Impreza EJ201 non turbo, she was making ticking noise so I decided to adjust valve clearences. After valve adjustment, performance increased but engine runs very rough when idle, no matter when engine is hot or cold. After that I rechecked valve clearences, if it is in right position to TDC, everything semems good. Then I tried to clean IAC sensor, check spark plug cables, changing spark plugs, reset ECU but nothing helps. I canīt access ECU via OBD2, so donīt know about any errors. What could cause this trouble? Thanks for help.

That's ok I thought you'd fallen into the usual trap of the crank marks

Why? I checked TDC by inserting stick into the cylinder and when I turn crankshaft I feel when piston is in TDC. I use arrows just to know which cylinder I am setting. This is bad?

No your 100%. I thought you maybe thought the crank mark was number 1 TDC.

Problem solved!
Timing belt jumped on left camshaft wheel by 2-3 teeth. This was causing rough running. Timing belt was removed, wheel alligned and now engine runs like new, nice and smooth!
