Default Anyone attempted rebuild themselves?

Just a quick question as having done and got some quotes online for parts you seem to double costs involved on bottom end alone in labour which I can fully understand but wondered if anyone has attempted the job themselves and did it go OK?

For example I've just got a quote for

Manley pistons
Manley h tuff rods
Acl bearings (all)
Gsc cams
Gsc valves
Springs
Valve seats etc
Arp head studs
Je mls gaskets
Id 1000cc injectors
Fuel pump

All this delivered from the US for under £2500! Which I thought was very competitive

£2500 + a load of tax or is that all in?

Very cheap if that's the landed price.

Phone AS Performance, I bet he can offer good rates on these items (or similar) and you can have the good feeling of supporting a "small" business.

Always message the seller abroad to see if on the import invoice they can list the price at half of what you pay.
They may say no but if they say yes you'll pay less tax 🤫
I may know someone who got door sills listed at 99p
O2 sensor at £99 etc

Except if the parts go missing, then courier will argue the parts were only worth what it said on the customs paperwork?

The invoice that's emailed to you has the correct price as does your credit card statement.
The price on the written form on the outside is purely for customs

your credit card "insurance" is simply based on a claw back from the Vendor who will then tell them you asked for it all to be marked down / nothing to do with them and presumably the card company will tell you to go away at that point............

Wrong.
The invoice the company email you will have the paid price. The credit card will see the money taken from the card.
The value is purely put on the customs form.. jesus.

he hasn't even had an issue to go down that route
Like I said I've done it with Japan and Italy and both times there's been no issues.

Why would he lose a claim for an oversite their end.
I highly doubt the credit card company would look at the customs form
They would see the price, the tracking and then lost in transit / damage etc.
If they questioned the customs he would say it must be an admin error.
I highly doubt they would care about the customs details.
*I'm married to someone who works for a credit card company and is considered very high up that ladder
